The Russell Girl

Every 6 weeks to 2 months I look forward to the Hallmark movies on CBS. Today I looked forward to The Russell Girl. Even though I know I'm going to cry through the entire 2 hour movie I still wait in anticipation for each Hallmark movie. Like I've mentioned before I'm a sentimental gal. In a way I relate to each movie in some small way.
Many of us out there believe in karma. I am a big believer in the saying "what goes around comes around". Every time something goes wrong I wonder what I did to deserve that. I have to say that I related to The Russell Girl for many reasons, karma being just one of them. I hope I can convince more people to watch Hallmark movies. I think everyone can relate to them in some way.
I know what some of you may be thinking. How can this girl who loves sports, watches the Girls Next Door, enjoys eating at Hooters, and hates to wear dresses be such a crybaby? I guess I'm a tomboy girlie girl!
I've always been able to be really good
friends with guys. I thought it was just my charming personality. Apparently it's because I'm a tomboy girlie girl. As my friend Yoly said two weeks ago: Hey, want to go to the movies? Oh wait, you don't like girlie movies. WHAT? I love girlie movies but I'm picky about them. However, I do love a good action or sports movie.
Well here's picture of the movie that started me rambling.

I Can't Believe It!!!!

I just heard this morning that New Kids on the Block are attempting to make a come back. As ridiculous as that sounds I kinda hope it works out for them. I was such a fan. I even went to their concert. Their official website is back in business. Yes, I actually checked if it was true. Ah memories!

That Song Says What?

Just a quick thought: Don't you hate when you hear a song and just LOVE it, but then you look up the words to it and it's not what you expected?

Case in point - The Way I Are by Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson. But you know what? I'm still going to dance to it. It's got a smooth beat.

GO SPURS GO!!!

I am watching the Spurs play the Losers, I mean Lakers, on ESPN and the man of the hour was none other than MANU GINOBILI!!! The sports commentators couldn't stop praising him the entire 2nd half. It could be the teacher in me or simply the fact that I love Manu, but I was so proud that they were talking about my man. (Note to all of you out there...If one day I fall and hit my head you might have a hard time convincing me that I'm not married to Manu. I guess you could just show me this post). But in all seriousness. I don't just love Manu because of his looks. Wink, wink! He is a fantastic player. I could sit here and list all of his accomplishments of the night but I'll let the final score speak for me. 103 to 92. When asked what the reason for the Spurs dramatic turnaround, Coach Popovich simply said "Manu Ginobili". Watching him play today prompted me to think: Is it the Spurs I love or Manu? And here is my answer. I think Timmy is a great leader, Tony has developed into an awesome player, and no one gets me more excited about 3 pointers than BRENT BARRY! So I guess I love the Spurs not just Manu. But babe, I'd follow you wherever you went.

Why Am I So Sad?

I'm sure most of you have heard by now that Heath Ledger has passed away today. The thing that has taken me by surprise is that I am really sad about it. I can't help but wonder why I'm so emotional about the death of someone I don't know. I realize however, that he was someone's son, friend, and father. Also, can I possibly be feeling like this because he was just months younger than me? People really close to me might chuckle because they know how sentimental I am. I tear up when I watch historical movies, SPCA specials, or Hallmark commercials I've seen tons of times.
Sometimes I let what others think of me bother me but this is one quality I love about myself. I do admit that sometimes I get emotional over trivial things, but I can't help it. The world needs softies like me to keep the world balanced. So I take this moment to shed some tears for Heath Ledger, his family, and all others affected by the death of a close one. A life ended too soon.

Here's that Hallmark commercial.

This Girl Hits The Town

Since moving home from San Antonio I hadn't been out. I mean really out. I put on my "night" make-up, put on my more "adult" looking outfit, and traded in my giant purse for a smaller, going-out type. I was looking good and feeling good.

I must admit that after our first stop I was ready to call it a night. The first place my friend Sandra and I tried was not the greatest. We both felt so out of place. The crowd there was too young for a couple of old ladies. However, the second place we tried was just right. The crowd was average, there was enough seating, and food and drinks. Yet the best part was the DJ. He was fabulous. Somehow he had the t.v.'s in the entire place connected and whatever song he played, the video showed. Several times he played a song I just wanted to jump up and dance.

As I was sitting there I was thinking about the power of music. A bunch of songs the DJ played took me back to a certain place in my life. The power of music to trigger a memory always amazes me. Here is a list of songs I heard tonight and the memory it triggered.

  1. The Power by Snap: The first time a boy ever asked me to dance and I said yes.
  2. Good Vibrations by Marky Mark: My crazy New Kid on the Block obsession. I also think it was the first time I though a guy was "hot".
  3. Rompe by Daddy Yankee: One of two songs that can make me dance regardless of what mood I'm in. The other is Move Ya Body by Nina Sky
There were so many others but these stand out the most in my mind. So if any of you have any songs that trigger a certain memory, please share!

Happy Birthday To Me!

So like I said on my profile, I just turned 29 and I am not so happy about it. I mean, next year I turn 30! That means I'm old and gross. But my friend Edie has convinced me to welcome the BIG 3-0 with a party. Somehow that makes it all worth it. I'll keep you up to date with all the party planning.

I'll have to say that my 29th birthday went extremely well. I am very blessed to have the friends and family I have. But to talk about my birthday this year I have to mention my class and parents. I was very much spoiled this year. My birthday started when my friend Jen took me to Starbucks the night before my birthday. I had my favorite drink: White Chocolate Mocha Coffee. I also applied for a job at Starbucks but that's a whole different story.

The next day Jen also brought me my favorite Sonic Drink: Oceanwater. Next many of students came in with several presents and cards. One little girl brought me a dozen roses in a vase. Then, my room mom, (yes, my school has room mothers), brought me none other than my favorite Starbucks drink and balloons. She also brought me lunch from Pei Wei.

At lunch I celebrated my birthday with my fellow 2nd grade teachers. We each take turns making or buying a cake for the birthday girl. When I got back to my room after lunch I had an additional cake from one of my students. Yikes!!! Anyone counting my calories? Well needless to say that I had also bought cupcakes for my kids to celebrate my birthday.

Did you say presents? I did get lots. But the one in particular that stands out is a $100.00 gift card to Macy's. Yay! I get to go shopping. I can't wait to see what they have.

Manu Is So Dreamy!

Not only is Manu a hot guy but he is a fantastic player. He scored 31 points on Thursday against the Cavaliers. Unfortunately no one cares about that because he missed the final shot, which would have tied the game. That's okay babe, I still love you.

I Can't Believe I'm Blogging!

After careful consideration I have decided to become a blogger. I hope to be as fun as the real Little Miss Sunshine.
