It's Looking Really Good

A new season brings new players and new hope. I have to say that I am super impressed with the Spurs team this season. I think our odds are good. Spurs win tonight...113 to 96! And who was the talk of the night? None other than my man, my babe, Mr. Amazing....MANU GINOBILI!!!!

Are You Ready For This?

Da run, da run, da....Okay well I can't exactly write the Spurs song but it's that time again!!!! Tomorrow is the first game of the new season. And to my great surprise, Jen alerted me that as part of our Say No to Drugs pledge at school, we can wear jeans and our team shirts. What luck! And the best part is that Manu Ginobili is back and healthy. So shout it with me...

Go Spurs Go!!!!!

Hmmm. Well unless you follow another team. :)

I'M GETTING MARRIED!!!!! Sort Of...

This Saturday marks my second summer wedding in three weeks. The first was fun. It was out of town and my family and I had a blast. The second wedding will be here in town and a very small affair. My cousin will be marrying her husband through the church and after she will have a small reception.

I suppose this is the part where I rave and rant about myself and how I am so crafty. I make my own jewelry, invitations (sometimes for other people), cards, scrapbooks, baking and now you can add florist. Yes that's right! Some how I went from providing input on what kind of flowers my cousin should have at her wedding as centerpieces to MAKING the centerpieces. And the thing that gets me is that she never asked me. It was all insinuated. I wouldn't have minded doing it at all. But she never really officially asked me.

As a result, I've created a fictitious wedding between Nina Garcia and Gino Emanuel over at the Knot.com. (I apologize if you are reading this and are an employee of The Knot. I love your website but thought it was unfair that you can only join if you are getting married.) How did I come up with those names? Nina is the nickname in Spanish for godmother and Garcia is my last name. Gino is for MANU GINOBILI and Emanuel is Manu's real name. (Manu is a nickname for Emanuel.) Note: I am obsessed with the San Antonio Spurs and in love with Manu Ginobili in case you didn't know. So there you have it...a fake bride and groom. I did it to get inspiration on how to approach my cousin's centerpieces. I have a general idea and started on prototypes yesterday. Well just the vases. Not the actual flowers because those are fresh flowers and I won't get them till Friday.

I've had a small panicking voice in my head since then. My cousin is very...particular and I fear her opinion on this. I mean come on...it's her wedding and I don't want to ruin it. She's been sweet telling me she has complete confidence in my judgement. In fact yesterday she used the words "creative genius". O.M.G. what pressure!!!! So I will do my best. No, I will try 150% because I want her to be happy. I'll take pictures for sure and post them. Y'all will be the judge.

YET, I can't help but wonder (paging Carrie Bradshaw...), if I do pull this off I guess I'll have something else to add to my creative portfolio. Flowers by Patty. Nah...it'll have to be more creative than that!

Random Randomness 3

I've had bits of random things running around in my head. Some are statements, some are questions, and some are just thoughts. Whatever...here goes.

Dear San Antonio Spurs,
You're down 3 games to 1. That means that one more game and you're out. I knew the day would come when you weren't the best but honestly, it's not this year. We get it...Manu is out but the rest of you have to help poor Tony. He can't keep scoring 43 out of 90 points. HE'S ONLY ONE GUY! Please help him!!!! Poor guy probably doesn't have any energy for Eva when he gets home.
Your obsessed and devoted fan (even when you're about to lose),
Patty

Why do people think they need to get their point across by resorting to violence?

R.I.P. Bea Arthur. I grew up watching Golden Girls. Even though I didn't understand all the sexual innuendos until I watched the reruns as an adult.

NFL Draft...it's going to be interesting for sure next year.

Will all the stuff I own fit in the wonderful future house I buy? Oh no....what about Matt's stuff?

Two migraines in one week really SUCKS!

Why does it have to be such a busy time right now? The end-of-the-year for teachers is an insane time!
What else will they ask us to do?

Tomorrow is our first Biggest Loser weigh-in and Patty has not fared well. Yuck!
I wish I was more like Bonnie. But...I am eating healthier.

When did my font change? I was typing this post with one and now it's become another.

House hunting is exhausting. However, when you find a great realtor like mine, it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Even my brother likes this family. And he doesn't like anyone.

I probably should've saved more money.

Why aren't cupcake shops in Austin open on Mondays? What do they have against Mondays?

Oh my, Matt just called me. Love to hear his voice. He's a sweet guy. I wanted to see how he felt about having parties at our house. Can I say: Best.Boyfriend.Ever. Everyone that knows me knows I'm big on entertaining so the fact that I didn't know how he felt about this made me nervous. And guess what? He's totally okay with it. As long as it's not all the time. Yeah, even I can't party all the time. Karaoke at Patty's. OMG at my very own house.

Last random thought: What am I going to eat for dinner? Update: I ate some of my yummy new cereal, a banana, and whole wheat toast. Scrumptous!!!

Almost Playoffs Time

Not sure if y'all have noticed but the excitement is starting to build again. Starting April 19th, the NBA Playoffs will begin. It is certain that the Spurs made it into the playoffs however, it is still unknown what place they will come in and who they will face in the first round.

Statistically since it is an odd year the Spurs should win. Yet they are playing without Manu so I don't know. But I'm hopeful. They have heart and they definitely have the experience. I'm putting my money on them. And I'll be wearing my jersey pins proudly!!!

GO SPURS GO!!!

Update: Not sure what the deal is but why, oh why TNT Playoffs commercial, do you rarely play the one with the Spurs in it?

Oh and the playoffs start on the 18th. Not sure the exact date the Spurs start!

Sorry I'm Late

My friend Amy is having her Round Robin event today. Although I'm extremely late I still wanted to share my craft. Again, no big secret that I LOVE the San Antonio Spurs. Every year when the Spurs make the playoffs I wear Manu's pin. I have a white jersey for when they play at home and a black for when they play away. I may have to make another one with Timmy or Tony's number since Manu is out. But then again, I support my babe even through the bad times.

Well back to the craft...

Materials
black and white foam
hot glue gun
glue stick
pin
silver and black sharpie markers
scissors

Steps
  1. Cut a square out of the foam. The size depends on how big you want your pin to be.
  2. From the square cut off the sleeves and neckline to make a jersey.
  3. Take your sharpie marker (use the silver on the black foam and the black on the white foam) and write "Spurs" on the top and the player's number. In the picture it is Manu's number.
  4. Use the hot glue gun to put some glue on the back of the foam and then adhere the pin. Press it into the glue and let it dry.
  5. And voila, you're done. It should look somewhat like the picture below. And like I said, you can use any color foam for any team you want. Also, I haven't it yet but I've wanted to make a Dallas Cowboys jersey. I would just cut sleeves into the foam instead of sleeveless like a basketball jersey.
I hope y'all enjoy this simple craft!!!

My Sports Made Me Soooooooooo Sad

Those of you that have been reading my blog for a while know that I LOVE the San Antonio Spurs. At 5:43 today I received a text from the Spurs (yes, I subscribe to their texts) that Manu Ginobili will not be playing for the rest of the season or for the playoffs. This is so devastating to me and makes me so sad. And as I mentioned yesterday I'm slightly in an emotional funk as it is so this is not helping the situation. If you want to know how deep my love for Manu is just click on his name in the label cloud.

For those of you that don't know, Manu Ginobili is my favorite Spurs player. This year he's been battling injuries and he was finally back after missing 19 games. He was even in the starting lineup. Every year for the playoffs I wear my Manu jersey pin. I made it myself out of crafting foam. Yes I'm a dork but my kids love it.

The Spurs are even a part of my family. Horacio is now a Spurs fan and a HUGE Manu fan. And the Spurs have brought my dad and I closer. Not to mention that it helps keep the tomboy in me happy.

It truly is a sad day for me. Just know that I take my sports very seriously. I blog about the Dallas Cowboys and their struggles but I love the Spurs and how they truly represent the definition of team. Sure there are better players than Manu but he along with the other members make a unique and inspiring team. I'm extremely sad right now.

Oh The Horror

Bad news everyone. Manu Ginobili is hurt once again. I am so sad about this. Actually, I am devastated. He won't be back for 2-3 weeks.

Amazing

MANU GINOBILI!!!!!!

He did it again. Manu steals the game. With only minutes left in the game against Miami Manu blocked Dwayne Wade's shot. Let me tell you that they replayed that play over, and over, and over. I must say that I never get tired of watching Manu. I'll look up the block on YouTube tomorrow and see if I can post it. It was AMAZING!

Update: I found it...Manu is amazing

2008...The Best.Year.EVER!!!

Note: I started this post on New Year's Eve but haven't gotten around to finishing it until today. Super sorry!

As I mentioned in my previous post 2008 has been my best year ever. I have so much to be thankful for. So many amazing things happened in both my professional and personal lives. Here are some random but meaningful things that I'm grateful for in 2008.

  • A whole year with Horacio - My baby and godson is so handsome and awesome. I'm a better person because of him.
  • Best class ever...2B - I truly have a great class. They are brilliant, kind, attentive, and amazing. I'm so sad to only have them for 4 more months.
  • New friends in the blogging world and online - NaBloPoMo 2008 introduced me to many new friends. I've also made some great friends online. And I've met some awesome people through current friends and family.
  • Carpooling with Jen - Jen and I have been carpooling since September. I enjoy our drives to work and home. If either one of us has to miss my day just doesn't go the same.
  • Co-teaching - I am having the best experience sharing my classroom with another teacher. I have become a better teacher because of the opportunity.
  • The Summer Olympics and Argentinean Basketball - It was exciting to see Michael Phelps win all his metals. Also, Manu played for Argentina. Let's just say that even though I had to wake up at strange hours to watch them play it was worth it. Manu ended up getting hurt but I have to support my man's decision to play for his country.
  • Love - The potential for love made 2008 a great year.
  • Twilight Saga - I fell in love with Edward. It was a great read and I got many of my peeps to read it too.
  • The Sex and the City movie - What can I say? The movie was as great as the series.
  • Shopping Spree - I don't like to shop for myself often but when Avenue opened in town I went crazy. Now I feel great in some awesome clothes.
  • New found hobbies - I bought a Cricut machine and now I found a new love for card and invitation making.
So there you have a few reasons why I will miss 2008. I hope this means 2009 will be even better.

Not Again

So my perfect class has one flaw. They are NOT Spurs fans. When I mention the Spurs the boys in my class roll their eyes. They even say, "Not again!" Most of them have their own favorite team so they don't follow MY team. Every year I'm able to win some kids over and make them Spurs fans but not this year. And not even the fact that my co-teacher follows the Spurs helps win them over. What can I do?

So picture this...I am reading a book to my class. I want my kids to enter the Kids Can Be Authors Contest through Scholastic. Students write and illustrate their own book. Well I've been reading different books that have won before. The kids really like them. I read one where students wrote about a farm that became the place where their school was built. It was very sweet. After the book I talked about possible subjects for a book the class could write. I said that you can write about something you really love. I did a think aloud with the kids.

Me: "What is something I love?" (I actually thought of mac and cheese but I couldn't write a book about that. My next thought was the Spurs.) "I know. I love the Spurs. I would write about them."

J: points to his mouth with both hands "I knew you were going to say that with that little mouth of yours?"

The whole class cracked up including me. But of course I didn't back down. (FYI: J is a New England Patriots fan.)

Me: "Yes, I'm going to write about the Spurs. That's my idea!"

So today my class started brain-storming their own idea for a book. I started my Spurs story. Jen had a great idea that I should keep every part of my story so that I can show my kids (present and future) that you have to work hard at writing something good. It isn't perfect the first time. So I'll share my process with y'all. Of course the kids can't take my idea. But it would have been nice if they chose to write about the Spurs.

I can picture it. It would win, I could send the Spurs Organization a copy, then they would invite us all to one of their games, we would meet the team down on center court, I would lock eyes with Manu, he would want to marry me. Kidding...he's already married. But just meeting the Spurs team would've been amazing.

Wishful thinking! Hope my kids end up loving my story.

MANU GINOBILI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't written a post on my man Manu Ginobili in a very long time. For those of you who just started reading my blog I am a HUGE San Antonio Spurs fan. My favorite player is Manu Ginobili. (Click on his name for our love story. You can also click on his name under my label cloud for everything Manu.) Just so y'all get a picture I'll describe how I keep in touch with the Spurs.
  1. I print their entire schedule and keep track of ALL wins and losses.
  2. I subscribe to their texts. They text me the score after all games and any Spurs related informations such as trades.
  3. I get emails as well.
  4. I cut out clippings and read all articles in newspapers and online.
  5. I talk, talk, talk about the Spurs whenever I have the chance. (Just ask Jen.)
Anyway, during the summer olympics Manu got hurt. He had surgery and has missed the first 12 games of the season. Needless to say that the Spurs didn't get off to a great start. Then about 2 weeks ago Tony Parker got hurt. It seemed our world was collapsing. However, the new guys they've acquired and some former players have been able to step it up. And Timmy has been working overtime to keep them afloat.

So I'd like to welcome my man, Manu, back. He's done so well so far. Oh honey...I'm so glad to see you. You have been missed dearly.

Update: Manu helps the Spurs win!!! He scored 12 points. Yay, babe!

: (

My Spurs lost to the Suns in their first, regular season game. It was a great game. Manu didn't play due to his injury. I have to say that I'm impressed with the other talent on the team. Some players that didn't get much playing time last season did really well. I will miss Brent Barry but I suppose live goes on.

Basketball is Back

The San Antonio Spurs are back. Today their preseason begins against Houston. Of course most of their bench will get playing time but I'm so excited that they are playing. Their actual season starts on October 29th against the Phoenix Suns. All are back including Ime Udoka. He is so hot. Not to mention that he was an asset to them during the playoffs. They also have some new additions. I'm excited to see what they bring to the team. Of course I will miss my love, Manu. He'll be back in about 2 months. But I'm sure he completely trusts his team as I do.

I Can't Wait Till December

I just heard today that Manu will be out all of November and possibily half of December. I must say that I am really relieved because I thought he might be out until March. So not I have to count down the days until Manu's return.
On a different note, here is a picture of Manu's 2008-09 bobblehead. I have last year's. I didn't get it until March when I went back to visit my friends in San Antonio. I am expected back in April for a big quince. I often get close to the parents of some of my students. So of course I have been invited to share their daughter's big day. She was never in my class but I had her brother for two years. I hope they don't run out of bobbleheads!

Some Relief

Manu Ginobili underwent successful surgery. Here's praying to a successful recovery, not a speedy one because I don't care if it takes 6 months as long as he is close to 100 percent. I am so relieved. We definitely want a repeat of this!!!

Manu needs surgery. Boo hoo.

The Image I Was Dreading

This is an image I didnt' want to see. I am deeply saddened. Nothing can make me feel better, not for a long time.

Yay! Argentina Wins the Bronze Metal! Boo Hoo the Spurs are not too Happy

Just like their first game, Argentina ended up playing Lithuania. This time however, they won. If Argentina had won that first game they would have been first in group A and then played China. I'm almost positive they then would have beat Spain and gone on to play the USA for the gold medal. However I must say that I am still very proud of my man and his team. Unfortunately, Manu was not able to play in the bronze medal game. I didn't watch the game but it would have made me sad not to see Manu play. Again, I'm afraid for him and the upcoming Spurs season. This article made me teary-eyed.

I love you, Manu. Get better soon.

Argentina Plays For Bronze

Sadly my Argentinean team lost to team USA. This means that they will not get the gold metal. But on the up side, they only lost by 20. Which brings me to my next dilemma, Manu got hurt again. I'm sure every San Antonio Spurs fan gasped at the news. So, a team that usually wins by 40 plus points only wins by 20 against a team who didn't have their best player. Hmmm, sounds interesting to me. Maybe those NBA players all conspired to target Manu knowing they're winning this year. So I pray that Manu gets healthy again and helps lead the Spurs to their fifth championship. It is an odd year after all.
