Sometimes I feel I have so many thoughts going on in my head that I should write them down just so I can go back to them at a later time. I'm thinking a blog is not the place for meaningless thoughts, but hey, why not?!
We finally turned our heater on. I would consider that winter. :) I know, I know. Not officially. I love this time of the year. It feels very much like home to me. And not to forget the smells this time of year.
I was on Facebook catching up with friends when I linked over to my friend's new blog. I am so excited and proud that she has decided to tackle the giant task of training for a marathon. What I'm most impressed with is that she by no means is your "marathon usual" person. She, like so many of us, is not in the best physical shape. And somehow I believe she will do exactly what she sets out to do.
And so now I am lost in thought at how hard it is for me to get motivated in losing weight. I know that for those of you that have read my blog for a while you know how I've tried over, and over to beat the obesity demon but just can't. And so I asked myself what is the difference between those that succeed and those that do not? What did they do that the others did not? I know for me I've realized that I make justifications excuses that lead to my failure. Everything from how expensive eating healthy is to lack of support. Oh and not to mention that being a teacher doesn't help. Often we are "buttered" up with sweets and mountains of sugary, sweet things.
And to be honest, I'm not sure what my purpose in writing this post was. Was it for input? Was it to just put down on paper, err on the internet, a more solid plan? Or was it just to clear my head? In the end, I think God will unveil his plan for me. Yet as I'm about ready to to publish this post I've had one last thought. I know that I can be healthier, and I know that I want to live longer, but is it also possible that I am happy exactly the way I am? And maybe, just maybe that was God's plan all along.
Dear God, I know that I've had many such conversations with you about what my place is in this world. I wonder if I'm really doing what you set out for me to do. And now I'm adding one more question. In a world where most people are so health conscious, is it possible to just be happy even though I know I am unhealthy? Is that part of your plan too? Terribly confused, Patty Note: I'm sorry to those who may be offended that I just publicly posted my letter to God.
I know they are supposed to make you feel better but I hate, hate, hate going to the doctors. Funny how one bit of news has such a tremendous effect on your life. Sadly, I don't think I'll be done with doctors for a while. So right now I'm feeling so ewww and very much yucky.
Today was a busy and hectic and honestly a bit overwhelming. Have to say life won't be the same anymore. And for the first time it hit me that when I got home I had someone to share it with.
I can't believe it's already August. Sad news: I go back to work in about 2 weeks. Happy news: this post marks my 300th post. Woo hoo! It's been fun. Although I haven't really posted in a while and it seems like I may not do it very often, I have to say that I love to blog. So Happy August to all of you.
And...since it is my 300th post I want to tell y'all 300 things about me. HAHAHA! Yeah right! I wouldn't do that to y'all. But here are some random things I'd like to share.
Matt is all moved in. It's a major adjustment for us. Well, he's doing better than I am. He's such a good guy. He's good to me and with me. If that makes sense.
Summer is almost over. Or I should say summer vacation is almost over. It's been a memorable one for me.
I am officially addicted to the Disney Channel. I love Wizards of Waverly Place. Too funny!
Nothing excites me more than the rush of buying new school supplies. Today I bought my new calendar for the year. I.AM.SO.EXCITED.!. I'm using my coordinating pens to write all over my calendar.
I'm a little nervous about the new school year and new crop of kids. When you've had THE.BEST.YEAR.EVER. how can anything compare? It'll be hard to top last year.
Thoughts of applying for new positions are finally dancing in my head. After 4 years of having my degree and certification in Educational Leadership I finally know I can do it.
I think I broke my laptop. Well sort of...
What is everyone having for dinner? I'm super hungry.
Again, watching TV in High Definition is the greatest.
First NFL preseason game: August 9th. OMG!!!!
Have a great August everyone. I hope to be on more often and to visit your blog soon!
I've got tons on my mind right now. Enjoy as I ramble.
Lifetime is the devil. Lifetime Movie Network...double devil. Then again, I did see some awesome movies today. Not just your typical girl in trouble movies.
Putting the finishing touches on a house is more stressful than moving in. I'm stressing over finding art pieces and the little things. And landscaping. Yuck! I don't know what to do.
My summer break is going way too fast. :(
OMG HARRY POTTER IS JUST 4 DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still need to take pictures and post them.
Cooking and washing dishes is not so bad. However, having a dishwasher is freaking awesome.
There is no end to how much HGTV and Food Network I can watch. Oh and watching it on HDTV is fantastic. Football season...here I come.
Yay! One week till the boyfriend moves here. Many changes coming.
Spurs in the offseason are looking GOOD. Read this article about them. Scroll down to where it says WINNERS. YAY!!!!
Sadly, this is the first summer in a long time that I haven't done some reading. It's the house's fault.
For the most part I love Facebook and MySpace. I've been able to reconnect with some long lost peeps.
Quote from my new principal who I saw at a staff development: Her: "How's the new house?" Me: "Oh it's wonderful! I've almost got it all together." Her: "Oh good so now you're swimming in debt. How wonderful!" I don't think she was being sarcastic. I think she was actually happy for me.
It takes me 40 minutes to drive to work, 30 to my mom's, and 25 to church. But...it only takes me 4 minutes to get to my sister's. We've had tons of fun all summer. And the nephews have managed to spend the night at least once a week. I love having a guest room!
I've had bits of random things running around in my head. Some are statements, some are questions, and some are just thoughts. Whatever...here goes.
Dear San Antonio Spurs, You're down 3 games to 1. That means that one more game and you're out. I knew the day would come when you weren't the best but honestly, it's not this year. We get it...Manu is out but the rest of you have to help poor Tony. He can't keep scoring 43 out of 90 points. HE'S ONLY ONE GUY! Please help him!!!! Poor guy probably doesn't have any energy for Eva when he gets home. Your obsessed and devoted fan (even when you're about to lose), Patty
Why do people think they need to get their point across by resorting to violence?
R.I.P. Bea Arthur. I grew up watching Golden Girls. Even though I didn't understand all the sexual innuendos until I watched the reruns as an adult.
NFL Draft...it's going to be interesting for sure next year.
Will all the stuff I own fit in the wonderful future house I buy? Oh no....what about Matt's stuff?
Two migraines in one week really SUCKS!
Why does it have to be such a busy time right now? The end-of-the-year for teachers is an insane time! What else will they ask us to do?
Tomorrow is our first Biggest Loser weigh-in and Patty has not fared well. Yuck! I wish I was more like Bonnie. But...I am eating healthier.
When did my font change? I was typing this post with one and now it's become another.
House hunting is exhausting. However, when you find a great realtor like mine, it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Even my brother likes this family. And he doesn't like anyone.
I probably should've saved more money.
Why aren't cupcake shops in Austin open on Mondays? What do they have against Mondays?
Oh my, Matt just called me. Love to hear his voice. He's a sweet guy. I wanted to see how he felt about having parties at our house. Can I say: Best.Boyfriend.Ever. Everyone that knows me knows I'm big on entertaining so the fact that I didn't know how he felt about this made me nervous. And guess what? He's totally okay with it. As long as it's not all the time. Yeah, even I can't party all the time. Karaoke at Patty's. OMG at my very own house.
Last random thought: What am I going to eat for dinner? Update: I ate some of my yummy new cereal, a banana, and whole wheat toast. Scrumptous!!!
Every time I see the Heineken commercial where the girl is giving her girlfriends a tour of her house and then when she shows them her walk-in closet they scream. They then are interrupted by similar screaming from the guys admiring their buddy's' walk-in beer fridge. Sorry for the recap but I tried looking for the video clip on YouTube but the only ones I found were in Dutch.
So, what commercials crack you up no matter how many times you've seen it?
There are many things I've had bouncing in my mind. All are random but I must share with everyone.
I really dislike Shaq but the man can move. (I'm watching the 2009 NBA All Star Game) Go West!!! Even though most are the enemy.
I watched "He's Just Not That Into You" yesterday and although the movie was good (for a girly film) I couldn't stop thinking how great Jennifer Connelly's hair looked.
Why are the Girl Scout Cookie packages so small now?
I really would like to get a tattoo or two. One of Mr. Cupcake on my blog and one of a cute sun or Little Miss Sunshine. I'm thinking on my my back right below my shoulders.
I have numerous magazines I have to go through. I'm thinking one a day and I should be caught up in about two months.
I'm looking to buy a DVR of some kind. I must have one soon.
Pretty soon I will tell everyone about the new Patty. Within the last few weeks I've been inspired to be a better me. Details coming soon.
Don't you hate it when you need something but you can't find it?
I'm grateful Lent is coming up because it means it's a time to do something to get closer to God.
I often wonder if I'll ever be more girly.
Officially I am ADDICTED to cupcakes, cupcaked related items, and cupcake blogs.
Although Jen didn't suggest I do this personally, it did look like fun. And I always welcome the opportunity to talk about myself...LOL! Here goes
My story
Hi, my name is: Patty
Never in my life have I been to: Mardi Gras, Alaska, New York City, or Vegas...and many other places
I hate it when: When people don't drive at least the speed limit...especially on the freeway.
If your gonna talk smack about me: I couldn't care less.
The one person who can drive me nuts is: My niece, Vanessa. Can't live with her or without her.
When I'm nervous: I ask too many questions.
The last song I listened to was: I Swear by All-4-One. Heeeyy, I was watching Just Friends on Comedy Central.
If you were to get married today ur maid of honor would be: Well since I'm never getting married I don't have to worry about it but if it happens I'd have two: Vanessa my niece and Edie my friend from San Antonio.
My hair is: Really curly and growing out.
When I was 5: I had a big crush on Elvis Presley.
Last Christmas: I had a blast with my family and was getting ready to take a life altering trip to Austin.
I should be: Going to bed.
When I look down: I see my baby boy, Horacio, asking me to pick him up.
The happiest recent event was: Falling in love.
My current annoyance is: Taking the time to watch all those 3D commercials during the Super Bowl when they sucked. We all looked like idiots, but hey...we'll always remember that.
I have a hard time understanding: why people drive so slow in this city. There's this girl that I know: that has the most sincere and kind heart. She's the kind of person you know is out there but is very rare. She just happens to be my intern. When I grow up I want to be like Marybel.
The thing I want to buy is: a TiVo
If you visited the place I'm from: you would fall in love with the mountains
Most recent thing I've bought myself: Geez! I'm always buying myself stuff. I bought myself a few Little Miss Sunshine things.
Most recent thing someone else bought me was: A grande caffe latte with vanilla from Starbucks. Thanks Jen!
My middle name is: Patricia
Last night I was: I was out shopping with my sister. Like always!
If I was an animal I'd be: nothing that gets eaten
Tomorrow I am: going to watch Heroes. I'm so glad it's back.
Tonight I am: watching The Office after Super Bowl special and talking to my sweetie.
Everyone knows I'm not a fan of the forward but Jen's my one of my best friends and she's never steered me wrong with forwards so here I am. She has so kindly given me the letter H. Unfortunately, the letter S was already given out so no Spurs for me (thanks Bonnie) and she took the letter M (so no Manu either). But the way I see it y'all already know I love all that so...H is a change of pace.
Here are 10 things I love that begin with the letter H.
Horacio: My cute and most adorable great nephew and godson. He's such a good baby.
Harry Potter: What can I say about this boy wizard? He took up many years worth of sleep and will continue to do so. I have to read his books every few years.
Hallmark movies/commercials: Boo hoo...meaningful movies and commercials that are worthy of my tears.
Heroes: I love this superhero show. I've watched it since day 1.
Huevos Rancheros: Ha ha, it pays to be bilingual. I love the eggs with their yummy, runny salsa.
History: I love to teach about it, read about it, watch it in movies, and talk about it. I'm not always 100% accurate but I'm pretty good with information.
How I Met Your Mother: OMG!!! This show is hilarious. Neil Patrick Harris is a scene stealer.
Head Over Feet: The song by Alanis Morissette. It's been my absolute favorite song for about 14 years. That's almost half my life. And now I finally have someone in mind when I hear it...This version is awesome!!!
Hope Floats: I love this movie because sometimes in order to find your inner strength you have to through some real challenging experiences. Or how I'd like to say it...you have to go through crap to get to the really good stuff.
Hand-made crafts: I love to make and give hand-made gifts. I make my own jewelry, cards, and invitations. Some of them have actually come out nice.
I love movies. I love to go to the movies. I love to watch movies at home. And my weakness is buying movies, even if I haven't watched them. Here is a list of movies I love for no particular reason. They have no message or meaning and some are just plain silly. They're random movies that I'll watch everytime they are on tv.
Zoolander
Beauty Shop
Coyote Ugly
Adventures in Babysitting
The Fast and the Furious
Napoleon Dynamite
Fever Pitch
Dazed and Confused
A Knight's Tale
Save the Last Dance
This list could go on for a while, and I may add to it as I remember more movies.
Note: I started this post on New Year's Eve but haven't gotten around to finishing it until today. Super sorry!
As I mentioned in my previous post 2008 has been my best year ever. I have so much to be thankful for. So many amazing things happened in both my professional and personal lives. Here are some random but meaningful things that I'm grateful for in 2008.
A whole year with Horacio - My baby and godson is so handsome and awesome. I'm a better person because of him.
Best class ever...2B - I truly have a great class. They are brilliant, kind, attentive, and amazing. I'm so sad to only have them for 4 more months.
New friends in the blogging world and online - NaBloPoMo 2008 introduced me to many new friends. I've also made some great friends online. And I've met some awesome people through current friends and family.
Carpooling with Jen - Jen and I have been carpooling since September. I enjoy our drives to work and home. If either one of us has to miss my day just doesn't go the same.
Co-teaching - I am having the best experience sharing my classroom with another teacher. I have become a better teacher because of the opportunity.
The Summer Olympics and Argentinean Basketball - It was exciting to see Michael Phelps win all his metals. Also, Manu played for Argentina. Let's just say that even though I had to wake up at strange hours to watch them play it was worth it. Manu ended up getting hurt but I have to support my man's decision to play for his country.
Love - The potential for love made 2008 a great year.
Twilight Saga - I fell in love with Edward. It was a great read and I got many of my peeps to read it too.
The Sex and the City movie - What can I say? The movie was as great as the series.
Shopping Spree - I don't like to shop for myself often but when Avenue opened in town I went crazy. Now I feel great in some awesome clothes.
New found hobbies - I bought a Cricut machine and now I found a new love for card and invitation making.
So there you have a few reasons why I will miss 2008. I hope this means 2009 will be even better.
I can't tell you what the deal is but it is not at all Christmas weather here. Yes, today in the morning I was wearing a coat. However, as 1:30 rolled around the coat was off and I was shopping in short sleeves. I'm not sure how y'all feel but I'm having somewhat of a hard time getting into the holiday spirit with it being so hot. Well hot for December.
So sorry that I've been M.I.A. Once I finally missed a day of posting I kind of didn't feel that pressure to post daily. And I felt like the quality of my posts was in limbo. So I'm back and sort of refreshed. I have so many things to talk about but then I'm so tired. We have one day left of school before we go on Winter Holiday. At this point my body knows it's about to get a break and it wants to relax. With that being said I can't wait to share with y'all how my day goes tomorrow. Already I can tell it's going to be different. First of all, I only had to make rice krispy treats today. Usually I have to make or put together a lot of things. I rather like this feeling. I can actually relax before tomorrow. Next, my kids at school are surprisingly well behaved. Sure they are excited but they are being good. My classroom looks good. My kids have been working hard making decorations for our holiday party. So I'll share tomorrow with all my fun moments. (Not at all related to this post...Spurs lose 2 in a row...boo hoo).
I am so sleepy that I can't fall asleep. I hate when that happens. I have no will and energy to lay down and fall asleep. What a boring post I know. I will more creative tomorrow. I promise.
